Also known as Old Fort Purana Quila has three double-storeyed gates namely Bara Darwaza, Talaqi Darwaza and Humayun Darwaza. The Qila-i-kuhna Masjid is a prime appeal of Purana Quila which houses a prayer hall with five entrances. The combination of marble and red sand stone has made the prayer hall of this mosque a unique one.
As one of the historical Delhi monuments Purana Quila has an ancient significance. The excavation works carried out in and around Purana Quila has revealed the 1000 BC pottery in grey ware and coins of Gupata ages. The pottery works found in Purana Quila strengthened the fact that the historical city of Indraprastha, which was associated with the epic Mahabharata, used to exist in the very place where the Purana Quila stands today.
Being one of the prime symbols of the Mughal Dynasty Purana Quila in Delhi is visited by huge number of tourists from all over the world. Apart from general visitors, historians from many countries frequent to Purana Quila to experience the historic architecture of the monument.
