Teen Murti Bhavan


Teen Murti Bhavan is one of the beautiful museums of Delhi. It is also referred to as the Nehru Memorial Museum. This museum is one of the special Delhi museums because it was the house of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru lived here from 1948 to 1964.

It was earlier known as flagstaff house during the British rule when it was the house of British Commander in chief. This museum is located in the southern side of Rashtrapati Bhawan in Teen Murti Marg, New Delhi. The building was designed by Robert Tor Russell.

The name Teen Murti Bhawan was derived from the three statues of soldiers. After the death of Jawaharlal Nehru this building is maintained as a research library and a museum. Some of Nehru's belongings are preserved here, for example, a watch,which used to be kept on a table beside his bed.

Teen Murti Bhawan houses Nehru Planetarium. The library of this museum offers valuable information on the history of contemporary India. The Teen Murti Bhawan was constructed as a memorial for those Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the World War I. Delhi's Teen Murti Bhawan is closed on public during public holidays and on all Mondays. Teen Murti Bhawan is one of the finest museums of the country.
