Higher education is the gateway to lucrative careers. Gone are the days when professional courses were needed to find the avenues of financial success. Nowadays, universities offer post graduate programs such as Master of Arts (MA) in many subjects. Some of these programs are in huge demand. Such as MA (English) opens up a world of opportunities for various careers such as academics, media, content development, translation services, foreign trade and training for competitive examinations and entrance tests of various universities and prestigious institutes.

Current Scenario of M.A. in India

MA in regional languages is required to find jobs in local universities and colleges and in electronic media for translation services. MA in Mass Communications is required for jobs in print media, electronic media and films. MA in Applied Economics is needed for highly sought after careers in Economics studies at premier universities, MBA schools, government institutions and trade centers. MA in ancient history and archeology is required for jobs in archeology and studies of ancient cultures.

This full time two years program is also available in various foreign languages such as Spanish, French, German, Russian, Arabic, Italian, Japanese and Chinese. Apart from that software companies, movie production companies, and animation and video game companies employ people, who can translate dialogues and scripts from English to foreign languages and vice versa.

It is a two year course with two annual exams and you can opt for doctoral program after the completion of a two year MA course. The eligibility criterion to get into an MA program is a bachelor's degree with Honors. Some of the universities conduct an entrance exam to get into an MA program. This entrance exam might be followed by a personal interview.

Different state and central universities run MA courses. Some of these courses require no entrance test; it is entirely based on merit and marks obtained in BA or Bachelor's degree. Whereas, some universities conduct entrance test and some of them conduct both an entrance test and a personal interview to get admission into prestigious courses with limited seats.
