Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati popularly known as IIT Guwahati or IITG is an autonomous institute for higher education in Engineering and Technology. It is situated in Guwahati, Assam. It is 6th among the IITs in India. IITG was set up in 1994 whereas its academic programmes started in the year 1995.

The IITG campus is situated on the banks of Brahmaputra and spreads over an area of 700 acres of land. At present there are more than 2300 students, 300 support staff, and 215 faculty members.

For the first time in history, India has one of its institutions included in the top 100 World University Rankings. The list of '100 Under 50 2014' institutions, released by the Times Higher Education (THE), has graded the Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati at the 87th position. The list has institutions from around the world that have not yet reached their 50th year of operation.
