Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

Located in Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore was established in the year 1909. This is a highly esteemed research institute providing higher education in various disciplines of science. The institute was mainly a brainwork of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. In its initial years, Indian Institute of Science was known as ‘University of Research’ or ‘Research Institute’. Indian Institute of Science is popularly known as IISc. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is one of the top 400 educational institutes as surveyed by Academic Ranking of World Universities.

The campus of the institute is situated in North Bangalore, which is 4 km from the principal railway station as well as from the bus stand of the city. Apart from over 40 departments, the campus of IISc accommodates six canteens, three dining halls, a family restaurant, a gym, nine hostel for men and five hostel for women, library, one air strip, 2 shopping centers, beauty salon, massage parlor, faculties’ and staff members’ residential areas.

Academic Programmes at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, offers various degree programs, which can be divided into two major categories, namely, Degrees by Research and Degrees by coursework.

Degrees by Research include courses like MS in Engineering, integrated Ph.D and Phd. On the other hand, degrees by coursework include courses like MTech, ME, MDes and MBA.

The program of Integrated PhD offers opportunities to interested candidates to pursue advanced research in various disciplines of Chemistry, Biology and Physical Sciences.

The two year coursework program of ME/MS in ENGG and M.Tech helps the interested candidates to modify the courses in accordance with their interest, research requirements and interest.

Formed in the year 1948, the Department of Management Studies provides MBA programs for the engineering students. On the other hand, Center for Product Design and Manufacturing offers 2 years graduate program in Master of Design course.

Students applying for M.E and M.Tech must qualify the GATE examination. Career analysis and technical interview rounds determine admission of the research program. For students interested in MBA program of the institute, JMET or Joint Management Entrance Test has to be cleared.
