National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur
National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur also known as NIT Hamirpur is a technical university situated at Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. The Government of India funds this deemed university of technical education in India. It is 1 among the 20 National Institutes of Technology that has been brought into existence by the Government of India.
Founded in the year 1986 as a Regional Engineering College, Hamirpur or REC Hamirpur, the institute was the joint venture of the Himachal Pradesh Government and the Government of India. On June 26th, 2002 REC Hamirpur was recognized as a deemed university and was also upgraded to National Institute of Technology. The infrastructural quality of the institute has made it the best NIT as per the infrastructural facilities.
Academic Departments at National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur
National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur offers diverse undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Engineering and Architecture. Besides these, it also provides PhD programmes in Sciences, Engineering, and Humanities. Admission to undergraduate courses i.e. B.Tech is through the performance in the All-India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) that is conducted every year while M.Tech admissions are done through GATE. Bachelors of Technolgy or B.Tech degrees are being offered by the institute of engineering since the year 1986. Master of Technology (M.Tech) programmes of the institute commenced in the year 2005 while the PhD programmes started in 2006. MBA programmes of the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur was introduced in the year 2009.

Centre for Material Science and Engineering
The centre was established in the year 2008. The centre concentrates on interdisciplinary research and teaching in order to receive worldwide appreciation and attention. The mission of this centre of excellence is to produce quality human that would include Physicists, Chemists, and Engineers who have great professional competence in the area of interdisciplinary research that encompasses chemistry, biology, physics, material science and nanomaterial.
Centre for Excellence in Energy & Environment
The Centre for Excellence in Energy & Environment has been set up in 2009 at the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur. The Centre has commenced its M.Tech programme in Energy Systems & Management and Ph.D programme in the year 2010. It also facilitates the inter-change of ideas that would involve policy influencers and decision-makers who would offer expert consultation and advice in various matters. The important task of this Centre is the development of innovative solutions to different challenges in the area of environment and energy. This involves the taking up of renewable sources of energy like Geothermal, Hydro, Solar Wind, Biomass etc. in order to cater to the energy requirements. Thus the Centre intends at consulting and maintaining a purposeful relationship with different networks and organizations which are in the area of energy. This would help in drawing the resources, thereby producing added value.
