Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur, or VNIT, also called as NIT, Nagpur, came into existence on June 1960. It is 1 among the 1st 6 Regional Engineering Colleges and has also been recognized as an Institute of National Importance. It was formally called the Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE), Nagpur

The campus of the Institute sprawls over an area of 214 acres and is at a distance 8kms from the Nagpur Railway Station and 7 kms from the Nagpur Airport.

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) also comes under the 20 National Institutes of Technology and Engineering Colleges in India. At present the institute offers scientific and engineering education in 8 undergraduate courses, 11 post-graduate programmes and diverse research programmes. VNIT also consists of an architecture school with B.Arch. and M.Arch. programmes. Admission to the undergraduate programme is done through AIEEE while admission to post-graduate courses is through GATE.

The Institute is the result of a joint venture between the Maharashtra and the Indian Government. VRCE was changed to Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology and given the status of a deemed University on 26 June 2002.

The institute is planning to start a new department in Aeronautics Engineering. The other facilities available at the Institute are 7 Boys Hostels and 2 Girls Hostels with excellent facilities, library with a rich collection, internet facility Auditorium, Sporting Facilities, Computer Center, Hospital, State Bank of India branch with ATM facility, Post & Telegraph Center, co-op store, Canteen, , and a coffee-shop.
