Overview/HistoryAs the king of all tropical fruit - 'mango' makes our hot summers delicious; the mango festival celebrates the scrumptious fruit and everything about it. Held annually in Delhi, this festival has been showcasing mangoes since 1987. It is organized by the Delhi Tourism and Govt. of NCT of Delhi in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), the National Horticultural Board (NHB) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). However, this year the horticulture department of the West Bengal government and the food processing industries of the state have also contributed to make it more affluent. The Mango festival promotes trading of the fruit from all across the world. It aims to exhibit around eleven hundred varieties of mangoes from different Indian states.
CelebrationThe festival is celebrated with entertaining activities and events, like quizzes, mango eating competitions, slogan writing, mango carving, mango judging, children's shows, dance performances, arts and craft, mango tasting, and plenty more. Traditional mangoes like Langda, Chausa, Dasheri, Sindhuri, Alphonso, etc. along with new hybrids are displayed. Famous chefs from five star hotels in India demonstrate the preparation of various recipes made with mango. The Mango Festival also arranges the sale of processed mango items like jam, pickles, chutney, jelly, juice, aam papad, aam panna, etc. One can also purchase a mango plant to grow in your own backyard.

The DIMF 2014 has something unusual to offer, as this year the mango lovers will be able to feast on Bengal mango varieties as well.
