The following are some of the important festivals in June

Id Ul Zuha (17 June 2024)- This is a celebration of the end of the month-long Ramzan season of fasting among Muslims. This three-day festival is celebrated upon the sighting of the moon. Grand feasts and the purchase of new clothes mark the occasion.

  • Ganga Dussehra (16 June 2024) - This festival is dedicated to the river Ganthe ga. It is a celebration of "the coming down of the River Ganga on Earth". Haridwar is one place where devotees gather and bathe in the River Ganga that passes through here. People also take baths in places like Prayag in Allahabad, Garhmukteshwar, Rishikesh, and Varanasi.

  • Father's Day (16th June 2024)- We often think about how our mothers are important to us and thereby tend to often forget the sacrifice made by our fathers and the love and care bestowed by them on us. Father's Day is the occasion when we show our love and respect to our fathers. This day is celebrated all across the globe and is dedicated to all the fathers, to make them feel special.

  • Vat Savitri (21 June 2024) - Vat Purnima fasting is celebrated by the women in some parts of India, who pray for the well being and safety of their husbands on this day. In the year 2022, Vat Purnima will be observed on 14 June. The Vat Savitri Vrata is celebrated during the Poornima which is the full moon day, in the month of Jyeshtha. The festival is more popular in regions of Gujarat and Maharashtra. In some of the places, the Vrata is observed for three days. Prayers and pujas are offered to Vat Vriksha or the Banyan Tree and Savitri.

  • Sao Joao Feast of St John the Baptist (24th June 2024) - This is a popular festival of Goa. The celebrations include men jumping in overflowing wells to recover bottles of Feni which is local alcohol. Other events observed are music, dance and boat races.

    Sindhu Darshan Festival (26 June 2024) - This is a celebration of the Sindhu River also known as the Indus. This celebration is a portrayal of the river for its cultural and social impact on the life of Indian society.
