There are various modes of transport available in Bangalore. Buses, Autos and Taxis are the most common mode of public transport.
Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) operates more than three thousand public buses, servicing an average of 2,800,000 commuters.
Three wheeled auto rickshaws, more commonly called Autos are the most used means to commute within the city. They have an electronic meter that displays the fare at the end of the journey. They can take in upto three passengers.
Taxi Service within Bangalore is provided by several private operators and are commonly called 'City Taxis'. They can accommodate four passengers. These taxis also have an electronic meter that displays the fare, but they are relatively more expensive than autos.
An intra-city rapid rail transport system, the Bangalore Metro is being developed and is expected to be operational in 2008. The Metro, once ready, will encompass a 33 km elevated and underground rail network, with 32 stations.
Bangalore is well connected through the Indian Railways. The city is connected to the four Metros of the country : Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkatta, and all other important cities in the country.
Bangalore's HAL Airport is India's fourth busiest airport. It functions as a domestic airport as well as an international airport. Direct flights from Bangalore fly to destinations in Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
