GETTING AROUND
The public transportation system in Delhi is very flexible. Delhi offers various modes of transport: Buses, Autos, Taxis, Rickshaws and now Metro. A bus ride can cost between Rs 2 to Rs 10 depending upon the distance to travel. There are two types of buses plying on the roads- private owned and public owned-DTC buses. These buses are environment-friendly and run on CNG.

Autos and Taxis are easily available. While there are auto and taxi stands in all most every locality, an auto can even be hailed at streets. Both Auto and Taxi have electronic meters that display the fare at the end of the journey. While taxis can seat up to four people, the auto is good for just three. Autos are more costly than buses but less costly than taxis.

For shorter distances, cycle rickshaws are a comfortable choice. In areas like Chandani Chowk where there are very narrow lanes and traveling through autos and taxis is not possible, cycle rickshaws become the only option left. The rickshaw pullers charge Rs 5-Rs 20 depending on the distance.

The latest mode of communication these days is Metro. It was launched in late 2005, and has three operational lines. It has expansion plans to cover more areas in future. With these AC metros, traveling in Delhi's heat is now easier.
