Ministry of New and Renewable Energy

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is responsible for the development and consumption of renewable energy produced in India. Several new technologies have been introduced for utilization of renewable energy in various fields. The technologies involve generation of wind power, combustion of biomass, hydro- power generation, solar power and others. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of India also looks after other areas like fuel cells, generation of chemical energy and introduction of other advanced technologies.

The Ministry has launched innumerable programs for the development of power generation in India. It is responsible for implementation of all the programs for energy generation in a successful way. The proper use of biomass, energy production from industrial wastes and production of hydrogen energy is the responsibility of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of India. Shri. Vilas Muttemwar is the Minister in charge of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

The Government of India has put a lot of emphasis on various programs for the conservation of renewable energy. Many products of renewable energy are available in India at lesser prices than the products of fossil fuels. The Ministry arranges for programs of demonstration, resources evaluation in each field of power production.

Over the years, India has grown into a leading producer of renewable energy and gas. New technologies have been introduced in all major energy sources like wind energy, solar energy and others. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of India has given a lot of importance on the utilization of biomass, generation of wind and solar power allowing in sustainable production of renewable energy. The Ministry has introduced number of renewable energy programs for higher production and utilization of energy. The Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET), an autonomous body, is associated with the ministry.

The Government of India formed a number of organizations for the development of energy production. Following is the list of the names of these organizations:
  1. Commission for Additional Sources of Energy (CASE)
  2. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)
  3. Department of Non-Conventional Energy Sources (DNES)
