Ministry of Tourism


Ministry of Tourism is responsible for laying down policies and programs for the growth and development of tourism sector of India. Union Minister for Tourism heads this ministry while the Secretary is the administrative head. Smt. Ambika Soni holds the former position and Dr. Shilabhadra Banerjee holds the later position under the Ministry of Tourism of India.

Ministry of Tourism has some autonomous bodies and councils working under it. They are:
  • Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Bangalore, Karnataka
  • National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology
  • Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Goa
  • Syama Prasad Mookerjee National Institute of Watersports (NIWS)
  • Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM)
The India Tourism Development Corporation, a public sector undertaking also works under the Ministry of Tourism, India. There are total 10 divisions under the ministry. A Director or Deputy Secretary level officer heads the divisions. These divisions include:
  • Administration, PSU, Planning and Coordination, PE and IT, and PNE
  • Market Research Division
  • Integrated Finance and e-Governance Division
  • Overseas Marketing Division
  • Planning, Publicity, International Cooperation, and IT and Events Division
  • Human Resource Development and Domestic Tourism Division
  • Hotels and Restaurants Division
  • Parliament, Vigilance, Administration II and IV, NACO, Welfare and Public Grievances
  • Travel Trade Division
  • Official Language Division

The Indian Ministry of Tourism works in coordination with other departments, ministries as well as the government of state and Union Territories.
