Gujarat Chief Minister


The Chief Minister of Gujarat is the head of the state government and politics. Although the Chief Minister of Gujarat is answerable to the Gujarat Governor, yet the office of the Gujarat Chief Minister is vested with the maximum power.

Gujarat Chief Minister is elected as the head of the Gujarat government. Gujarat Chief Minister is elected through a general election, and the party that gets the majority, nominates its head as the subsequent post of the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister of Gujarat is elected for a term of 5 years; a Chief Minister can be re-elected after the expiry of his tenure.

Narendra Modi, who is the present Chief Minister of Gujarat, holds a record for being the Chief Minister who has held his office for the highest number of years. It is in the year 2002 that he took his oath as the Gujarat Chief Minister, and since then he has been the unanimous choice.

It goes without saying that the Gujarat Chief Minister is elected by the Gujarat Governor, but it is on the advice of the Gujarat Chief Minister that the Gujarat Governor appoints:
  • The Council of Minister
  • Advocate General
  • Chairman and members of the State Public Service Commission, etc.
In fact, it can be said that the Gujarat Chief Minister enjoys that highest administrative position. Although the constitution has rendered him answerable to the Gujarat Governor; but this is for namesake, so that the democratic government of Gujarat does not turn autocratic.
