Blackbuck National Park

Blackbuck National Park at Bhavnagar popularly known as the Velavadar Black Buck Sanctuary is situated in the Bhal region of Saurashtra. The Blackbuck National Park is located between two rivers, about 50 kilometers west of the Gulf of Cambay.

In 1972, the area of the Blackbuck National Park in Gujarat was increased to 34 square kilometers and the status of a national sanctuary was given under the Wildlife Protection Act. The Velavadar Black Buck Sanctuary is a tropical grassland and has four distinct habitats:

  • Saline land
  • High tidal lands

    The massive population of blackbuck and Indian antelope are the principal attraction of the Blackbuck National Park of Gujarat. The Blackbuck National Park of Gujarat is the home to more than 1500 blackbucks. The Blackbuck National Park at Gujarat has a 'wetland' 3 kilometers from the entry gate which is the ideal spot of wildlife watch. Though there are no safaris of the forest department of Blackbuck National Park in Gujarat. As such the private vehicle is the only source to move in the sanctuary.
