Gwalior Location
Gwalior location, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, is at the geographical coordinates of 26.22º North Latitude and 78.18º East Longitude. Situated 197 meters above sea level, Gwalior is 121 km from Agra and 321 km from the national capital of New Delhi.
The city of Gwalior coves a geographical area of 5214.00 sq km and is situated by the banks of Chambal River. It also serves as the administrative headquarter of the district of Gwalior and Gwalior division.
The landscape of Gwalior is dominated by the Gwalior Fort, situated on a rock outcrop. The historical city of Gwalior is completely land locked. Old Gwalior lies to the eastern side of the fort, Lashkar embraces the southern side while Morar lies to the East of the fort. All these regions together form the present city of Gwalior. Morar is the cantonment area whereas the new city of Gwalior has developed in the Lashkar region.
The strategic location of Gwalior has made it an army cantonment area. The major air base of Maharajpura came up in Gwalior, due to its convenient and safe location.
