Haridwar location indicates the geographical position of the north Indian city that is famed as one of India's most eminent pilgrimage sites. Haridwar city is sited in its namesake district, Haridwar that encompasses an area of 2,360 sq. km and stretches between the latitudinal parallel of 29°58 ' North Latitude and the longitudinal meridian of 78.13 degree East. The city is perched at an altitude of 790 m above sea level.

Haridwar, a part of the erstwhile Saharanpur Divisional Commission, rests at the foothills of the lofty Shivalik ranges. The city is enclosed between Dehradun district in the north, Muzzaffar Nagar and Bijnor districts in the south, Pauri Garhwal and Dehradun districts in the east and Saharanpur district in the west.

The holy Haridwar city, also known as the 'Gateway to the Gods', basks on the banks of the Ganges River and is the entry point to the sacred Dev Bhoomi and the venerable Char Dham, the celebrated pilgrimage quartet of ancient India that includes the Gangotri and the Yamunotri glaciers as well as Kedarnath and Badrinath.
