Kushavarta Ghat



Kushavarta Ghat is one of the must visits in Haridwar which is associated with the great saint of ancient times - Dattatreya. The local beliefs related to the significance of the Kushavarta Ghat in Haridwar speak of the saint who spent a considerable period of time in the place. Known to be constructed by Ahalya Bai Holkar, a Maratha queen, Kushavarta Ghat is used for performing shraddha rites.

As per one of the mythical sagas of Haridwar, Saint Dattatreya stood in the Kushavarta Ghat on one foot for 1000 years since he was believed to be going through a period of penitence.

Historic archives of Haridwar states that once upon a time Haridwar was a dominion of Maratha rulers. During their reign in the later part of the 18th century, these mighty Maratha warriors adorned Haridwar with many unique features. The Kushavarta Ghat is one such landmark which glorifies the golden rule of the Maratha Kingdom in Haridwar.
