The state of Haryana is watered by rivers like the Yamuna and the Ghaggar. The various dams and canals constructed by the government on these rivers channel out water to different provinces. The government has posted three commands of irrigation in the state. The Sutluj-Yamuna Link canal is located in the state of Haryana and benefits the citizens. The government has undertaken schemes to ensure that the irrigated water reaches the agricultural lands whose agricultural produce thrive on the proper availability of water. The industrial sector of the state also depends on the proper channeling of water for its growth. The government has encouraged the use of pump sets to generate water and has also tapped ground water. It plans to brick line the water courses as well.
To provide and sustain the supply of water in Haryana, the government has undertaken several schemes. The Rajiv Gandhi Augmentation Drinking Water Supply Project was implemented to provide drinking water in the Mewat region. The Yamuna Action Plan Project Phase-I is a joint project of the government with the Japan Bank of International Cooperation. Sewage treatment plants were constructed under this project.
