Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary provides refuge to a large variety of resident as well as migratory birds. The lush green glades are an oasis of idyllic green. The swamps and marshlands have been converted into sylvan water bodies that accentuate the beauty of the natural landscape. Large grasslands, dhok, khair, tendu, ber, jamun, acacia, and banyan trees dot the dense green terrains.
The panoramic reserve is the haunt of migratory birds that fly from as far as Siberia and gaggle of geese that arrive from Europe. Nearly 1000 species of birds have been identified of which darters, egrets, shovellers, gadwell, geese, teals, and kingfishers, ruddy shelducks, pelicans, flamingoes, bar-headed geese, grey lags, gadwalls, mallards, pochards, plovers, red-wattled lapwings, herons, cormorants, white ibises, spoonbills and painted storkslapwings, sandpipers, demoiselle and cranes deserve special mention. There are cute and intimate hideouts, watchtowers and museums that are an ornithologists dream.
Black buck, nilgai, hog deer, sambar, wild dog or dhole, caracal, wildcat, hedgehog, mongoose, striped hyena, Indian porcupine, rattle/honey badger, leopard, wild pig, and four horned antelope make up the reserve's diverse wildlife.
Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is frequented by tourists from the months ranging between September to March. Searing hot summers and chilly winters accompanied by torrential monsoon downpours marks the tropical climate. The bird reserve is easily accessible from Delhi and Gurgaon by an excellent network of arterial roads.
