Tomb of Razia Sultan is an important tourist attraction in the district of Kaithal. Kaithal is situated in the north central part of Haryana. The place is associated with a number of historical figures. Among Razia Sultana claims an important position as the first woman ruler of India.
Razia sultana was the daughter of Iltutmish, the sultan of Delhi, belonging to the Mameluk dynasty. She has acquired an important place in the Indian history, as she was the first woman ruler of India. She was on the masnad of Delhi outnumbering her male siblings. She was nominated by her father as his successor to the throne. She ascended the throne of Delhi in 1236 AD. But soon she became a victim to the conspiracy of the Turkish nobles. A fierce battle took place between Razia's men and the Delhi force in 1240. She was assassinated in the Kaithal district along with her husband Ikhtyar Din Altunia. It is said that she had been buried in the same place.
