Wheat Research Directorate

The Wheat Research Directorate is one of the prime research and training institutes of the Haryana State Government, dedicated to the enhancement of profitability and productivity of cereal crops like wheat and barley. The Directorate of Wheat Research works under the supervision of Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The Wheat Research Directorate has its present office at Karnal in Haryana. The main objectives of this very important organization are:
  • Organize, evolve, coordinate and supervise research to develop and identify superior and high yielding varieties.
  • Develop and invent suitable crop production techniques for wheat based cropping systems.
  • Provide nursery during the off seasons to facilitate seed multiplication and rapid generation.
  • Proper analyzing of data and information management.
  • Organize and coordinate breeder seed production and maintain activities related to technology transfer.
  • Maintain, evaluate and increase germ plasm for identify and categorize genetic resources.
  • Consolidate wheat and barley improvement programs by establishing national and international links.
