Yadavindra gardens

Yadavindra gardens, popularly known as the renowned Pinjore Gardens, lie at a distance of 20 kms from Chandigarh and 15 kms from Panchkula, on the Chandigarh - Shimla Road in Haryana. A dream-project of Fidai Khan, the then Governor of Srihind, who was also a keen architect and a cousin of Emperor Aurangzeb, started creating the Yadavindra gardens in the 17th century A.D. These mesmerizing gardens, also called Mughal Gardens, have been laid at 7 levels on a descending scale and have been owned by several dynasties from time to time. The fascinating Yadavindra Gardens is adorned a Mini Zoo, Nursery for plants, Open-air-theater, Japanese garden, Palaces and are a favorite for the Picnickers.

The colorful fountains in Pinjore Gardens dance to the sound of music after sundown and are a true delight. Winding pathways languishingly lie by the flower beds and shimmering streams. Shady bowers make a lovely walk full of serene moments and the gateways are a beauty in themselves. The Rang Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and Jal Mahal towers over the lush green lawns, giving a royal look to Yadavindra gardens. The walls are embraced adorably by beautiful creepers and the outer side remind of historical forts.

The Yadavindra gardens, designed in the classical Charbagh pattern with a central waterway, lost all its beauty due to complete lack of management after the end of Mughal Rule. His Highness Maharaja Yadavindra Singh of Patiala in Punjab is believed to have renovated the Pinjore Gardens to its former beauty and adding even more. This gave the garden its new name, Yadavindra gardens.
