Kullu is specially known for its Handloom industry. Kullu shawls and the unique Kullu caps are absolutely distinct in design and are renowned worldwide. There are around 500 handloom industries in the district providing employment to about 7000 weavers. 84 industries deal with production of food products, fruit processing and packaged water bottling.
Kullu attracts a lot of tourists that contribute a significant amount towards the economy of the district. Kullu Valley is rightly called the Valley of Gods as religious shrines are numerous in Kullu attracting lots of tourists. Fairs and festivals centering these pilgrimages are thus very common and include the famous Kullu Dussehra, Birshu, Phagli of Malana, Pipal Jatra (Spring Festival), and Sharhi Jatra.

- By Air: Kullu is well - connected by air. Indian, Trans Bharat Aviation and Jagson flights fly directly to and from Delhi & Shimla. The airport is at Bhuntar, 10kms. from Kullu.
- By Rail: Nearest convenient railway stations are Kalka, Chandigarh and Pathankot on Broad Gauge from where Kullu is accessible by road.
- By Road: Kullu is well served by road network with Delhi, Ambala, Chandigarh, Shimla, Dehradun, Pathankot, Dharamsala and Dalhousie. Regular direct buses are available between these stations including deluxe, semi-deluxe and air conditioned buses during tourist season. Local buses operate between Kullu-Manali and Manikaran regularly. Cabs are also available.
