Shimla

The beautiful district of Shimla stretches from 76º59'22" to 78º18'40" East Longitude and from 30º45'48" to 30º43'0" North Latitude. It is home to Shimla city, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. The total population count of Shimla District is 7,21,745 as per the Census 2001, the sex ratio being 898 females to every 1000 males. The district covers a geographical area of 5131 sq. km. and is situated at an altitude of 2202.00 Meters. Three major rivers Sutlej , Pabbar , Giri flow through the state. 87.72 % of the male population and 70.68 % of the female population of Himachal Pradesh are literate. It was once the Summer Capital of India under the British rule. The renowned Shimla Pact was signed here between India and Pakistan.
