Natural Resources of Himachal Pradesh


Blessed with a rich reserve of Natural Resources, Himachal Pradesh stands with elan near the regal Himalayan peaks. Adorned by snow-capped hilltops, the state is the storehouse of a variety of Natural resources. Water being the prime Natural treasure of the place, forests and cattle are its other main Resources.

Surrounded by perennial rivers and glaciers, Himachal Pradesh is an abode of valuable Natural Resources. Since the glaciers of the place provide an infinite supply of water to the rivers, hence the lands of the place are continuously irrigated round the year. This in turn leads to high production and more revenue.

Due to the abundance of water Resources, Himachal Pradesh has been able to set up several hydel power projects that have significantly enhanced the economic prosperity of the place. The Nathpa Jhakri project with a power potential of 1500 MW on the Sutlej River is one such notable scheme which has literally transformed the entire economic phase of the state.

Fruits are another major Natural Resources in Himachal Pradesh. Previously existed in an unorganized stretch of vast area, today the fruit farms are strategically located in almost all parts of Himachal Pradesh. Revenue earned from the fruit industry goes a long way in encouraging the economic scenario of the place.

Characterized by fertile lands, Himachal Pradesh is quite ahead in the field of agricultural production. From potato and rice to wheat and maize, the yearly output is quite sufficient to meet the local needs of the state.

Indicating a fresh and progressive face of the state, the Himachal Pradesh Natural Resources promise to add valuable wealth to the economy of the state.
