The geographical location of Himachal Pradesh is 30° 22' 40" North to 33° 12' 40" North latitude and its longitudinal extent is 75° 45' 55" East to 79° 04' 20" East. Himachal Pradesh is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir in the north and by Haryana in the South. Punjab borders Himachal in the south west and west. The south west is also bordered by Uttaranchal and Tibet lies in the east of Himachal. The total population of the state according to the 2001 census is 6,077,248.
The Area of the state consist of the topography of the land that is mainly hilly. Out of the total Area, 38% comes under forest cover.
