Area of Himachal Pradesh

The northern state of Himachal Pradesh is an important state from the point of view of tourism. The state mainly falls under the hilly region. The Area of Himachal Pradesh is 55,673 sq km. It is surrounded by other states of India. The location of the state favors the climate of the place which remains pleasant all through out the year.

The geographical location of Himachal Pradesh is 30° 22' 40" North to 33° 12' 40" North latitude and its longitudinal extent is 75° 45' 55" East to 79° 04' 20" East. Himachal Pradesh is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir in the north and by Haryana in the South. Punjab borders Himachal in the south west and west. The south west is also bordered by Uttaranchal and Tibet lies in the east of Himachal. The total population of the state according to the 2001 census is 6,077,248.

The Area of the state consist of the topography of the land that is mainly hilly. Out of the total Area, 38% comes under forest cover. The average altitude of the region ranges from 450 meter and 6500 meter above sea level. The elevation of the state increases from west to east. The hilly region can be divided into
