The northern state of India, Himachal Pradesh has a hilly Topography. This state is among the favorite tourist spot in India. The Topography of the state influences the weather which remains more or less pleasant through out the year. The natural beauty of this region is highly enticing.
The total area of Himachal is more than 55,673 sq. km. It is surrounded by landforms from all sides. The Topography of the land is mainly hilly. The average altitude of the region ranges from 450 meter and 6500 meter above sea level. The elevation of the state increases from west to east.
The Himachal region can be broadly divided into
- The Shivaliks or the outer Himalayas
- The central zone or the lesser Himalayas
- The northern zone or the great Himalayan and Zaskar
The Shivalik Hills are at an altitude of about 600 meter above sea level. This mountain range is generally considered to be the lower hills among the other mountain ranges in Himachal. This hilly region is tending to wear and tear and erosion lesser Himalayas rise abruptly near the Shimla Hills. A gradual rise in the elevation of this mountain range is noticed in the Pir Panjal and the Dhauladhar ranges. The Kangra Valley lies at the foot region of Dhauladhar. The Zaskar range is a home to a number of glaciers. Some of the highest peaks are located in this mountain range. The notable peaks are Shilla of 7026 meter and Riwo Phargyul of 6791 meter. The great Himalayan range has some of the important passes like Bara Lacha, Kangla, Parang and Pin Parbati.
The Himachal Pradesh has a beautiful landscape to offer to its tourists. The state has mountain vegetation and is a home to a variety of flora and fauna, suitable to the climate of the hilly region.
