Himachal Pradesh Government

Himachal Pradesh Government represents an organized political framework. Comprising of a Governor, judiciary and a legislative, the Government of Himachal Pradesh administers the functioning of the entire state with sufficient expertise. The history of the Government coincides with the post independent period of India.

Being a part of the Indian territory, Himachal Pradesh is headed by the Governor of the state - Shri Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje. He has been vested with special administrative powers that can be utilized during emergency situations in the state.

Next in the hierarchy of the Himachal Pradesh Government comes the Chief Minister. Regarded as the head of the state, the Chief Minister is empowered with executive powers that are meant specifically for niche conditions. Shri Virbhadra Singh has been elected for this post and he is managing the socio-political affairs of the state efficiently from 2003.

Being the capital of the state, Shimla has two of the parliamentary departments of the Government - Vidhan Sabha and the Secretariat. Also, the Himachal Pradesh high court is in this part of the state.

The Government of the state has a well-planned council of ministers which includes:

  • Excise and Taxation Minister - Shri Rangila Ram Rao

  • Agriculture Minister - Shri Raj Krishan Gaur
  • Horticulture Irrigation and Public Health Minister - Shri Singhi Ram
  • Industries Irrigation and Public Health Minister - Shri kuldeep Kumar
  • Animal husbandry Irrigation and Public Health Minister - Shri Harsh Mahajan
  • Transport Irrigation and Public Health Minister - Shri G S Bali
  • Forest Irrigation and Public Health Minister - Shri Ram Lal Thakur
With total member strength of 68, the Assembly of Himachal Pradesh has 14 House committees and its normal term is five years. Providing an active and deft administrative support system, the Himachal Pradesh Government progresses towards a better tomorrow.
