History

Every place in this world has its own history, its own story of evolution. Its journey through the passage of time includes the tale of its development and its blooming and flourishing into a ma-tured region.


Located amidst the breathtaking mountains and the soothing greeneries, the state of Himachal Pradesh is like a Paradise on earth.


Human beings have inhabited this heaven called Himachal Pradesh in India since the birth of hu-mankind and sunup of civilization. The place has splendid and a rich history, like the rest of India. The history of Himachal Pradesh can be segmented into quite a few discrete and distinctive ep-ochs.


The first ever inhabitants of the Himachal Pradesh region were a kind of tribal clan called Dasas. After some time the Aryans came down to the region and they absorbed the tribal people and in-corporated them into them.


The tribal chief of these hills were very powerful and indomitable. It was much later that they ac-knowledged the superiority of the great Mauryans and agreed to accept their supremacy. After the Mauryans there were the Kaushans, the Guptas and the Kanuaj rulers who ruled over the area of present day Himachal Pradesh respectively.


Later, the chiefs of the region and the Mughal rulers, who were at that time ruling a substantiate part of India, had made some joint settlements. Ranjit Singh conquered some parts of the area dur-ing the nineteenth century.


The British subjugated the Gorkha tribe and conquered some parts. Only about fifty years ago, thirty princely states came together to form the state of Himachal Pradesh.
