Television in the state of Himachal Pradesh operates through the satellites that help in broadcasting multiple channels to different parts of the state. The state has been able to achieve optimum level of distribution to even the remote parts of the state. The television is the most popular mode of communication in Himachal Pradesh.

The state of Himachal Pradesh has its own government owned broadcasting system in the form of Doordarshan. The Prasar Bharti distributes various programed television channels through the Doordarshan. The government airs channels specializing in news and sports like the DD News and the DD Sports. The national television broadcasting unit also provides a national channel which is run in all parts of the country. Doordarshan also broadcasts a region specific channel. DD Himachal Pradesh is a specific channel aired in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The Prasar Bharti provides satellite based direct to home television services in Himachal Pradesh. The broadcasting system has installed several transmitters that distribute the television programs to all parts of the state. The Prasar Bharti is now inclined to provide free television programming in the tribal areas of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur.

Other than the government owned television network, the state of Himachal Pradesh also receives channels that are broadcast by the multi system operators through cable. The operators broadcast a host of channels in various languages like English, Hindi and Nepali.
