The picturesque state of Himachal Pradesh, the erstwhile Summer Capital of India is noted for its tourist attractions as well as its impressive administrative policies. The State Commissions of Himachal Pradesh are responsible for the adjudication of several primary sectors of the Government.

One of the state commission's leading departments of concern is the that has been formed in accordance to the provisions of Section 21, sub section (1) of The Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. The commission came into official existence on 28.10.1995. Currently, the commission comprises of Shri B.S. Chauhan, Retd. District and Session Judge and Shri I.D. Bali, Senior Advocate, H.P. High Court.

The focal point of the state commission is the State Finance Commission, the first of which was constituted on 23rd April 1994. The first finance commission was officially formulated for the period from 1996-1997, while the second commission followed closely in the year 1998.

Ms Viplove Thakur heads the State commission for Women as a worthy chairperson.
