Himachal Pradesh, the erstwhile summer capital of British India attained the elite status of a full-fledged state on 25th January 1971. Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission is renowned for aiding the administrative procedures of the politically active state.
The duties and obligations of Public Service Commission in respect of the civil affairs of the state of Himachal Pradesh were being released by the Union Public Service Commission as per the Ordinances of the Article 315 of the Constitution of India. It was, therefore, imperative for the state to formulate its own Public Service Commission. The formation of the State Public Service Commission was an added bonus to the state's attainment of the distinction of an autonomous state.
The responsibilities and official duties of the state's Public Service Commission extends to the adjudication of all matters concerning the recruitment, selection, promotion and taking disciplinary action against personnel employed in civil and government services of the state and union. The Public Service Commission is also endowed with the provision to assist the government of the neighboring states in matters pertaining to recruitment of government personnel.
Employees are recruited based on a rigorous interview or a non-viva voce based written test.
