The picturesque state of Himachal Pradesh not only abounds in natural delights; the state is also noted for its political activity and sound administration. The efficiency and effectiveness of the state's administrative policies is augmented by the efforts of the state's residence commissioner.

The primary function of the state's residence commissioner is to act as a liaison between the State Government and the Central Government and thereby ensure the smooth function of the various departments of the State's government. It is the responsibility of the resident commissioner to integrate and hold together the various government concerns ranging from the finance department to industrial affairs. The resident commissioner's duties are diverse and include attending to the state's eminent dignitaries and conducting the protocol officer's duties and obligations.

The resident commissioner of Himachal Pradesh even issues permits to delegates visiting the state's protected reserve forests on a United Nations Aided Project or as a part of a World Bank entourage.

The government of Himachal Pradesh has presently appointed Mrs. Renu Sahni Dhar as Principal Resident Commissioner. The Deputy Resident Commissioner, a post currently held by Mr Daljit Dogra, the erstwhile Managing Director, State Road Transport Corporation, assists the Principal Resident Commissioner to conduct his duties efficiently. The offices of the Principal Resident Commissioner and the Deputy Resident Commissioner are housed in New Delhi, the country's capital city.
