State Constituenciess


The picturesque state of Himachal Pradesh, noted for its quaint hill stations is also known for its political activities. The state constituencies were in the limelight of Indian politics from the pre-independence days.

The able leadership of the legendary Congress stalwarts like Dr. Y.S. Parmar, Padam Dev, Shivanand Ramaul, Purnanand, Satya Dev, Sada Ram Chandel, Daulat Ram, Thakur Hazara Singh and Pahari Gandhi Baba Kanshi Ram achieved tremendous progress in all quarters of the state.

Himachal Pradesh attained the elite status of a full-fledged state on 25th January 1971. At present, the Congress who came to power after a landslide victory in the year 2003 dominates the states political scenario. The present Himachal Pradesh Government is spearheaded by the able leadership of Chief Minister, shri. Virbahdra Singh.

Besides the powerful national parties, the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, the political forefront of Himachal l Pradesh also abounds in state parties, the notable ones being:
  • All India Tribes and Minorities Front
  • Him Loktantrik Morcha
  • Himachal Kranti Party
  • Himachal Vikas Congress
  • Janhit Morcha
  • Lok Raj Party Himachal Pradesh
  • Loktantrik Morcha (Himachal Pradesh)

The state constituency is bifurcated into assembly constituencies and parliamentary constituencies. Shimla, Mandi, Kangra and Harimpur house the major Lok Sabha constituencies while there are as many as 68 assembly constituencies in the state.

The state constituencies of Himachal Pradesh are responsible for ensuring the political harmony and integrity that is mandatory for the overall growth and development of the state.
