After a tiring week, everyone looks up for a relaxing weekend. There are many places around Hyderabad which can be refreshing weekend getaways. The rich culture and heritage, serene environment plus the immaculate architecture is what is offered around the city for the purpose of relaxation for visitors. Few of the best weekend getaways from Hyderabad are:

Warangal

Warangali is a mesmerising place popular for its architectural temples and magnificent fort. It is at a distance of approximately 144 kms from Hyderabad and one can easily reach here by boarding a direct train from Hyderabad which is around two-hour journey. Else, one can also take a bus or use a private vehicle to reach this place. The places of interest here are Warangal Fort, Kaktiya Musical Garden, Bhadrakali Temple, Eturnagaram Wild Life Sanctuary etc. A large number of accommodations are available in Warangal where visitors can stay.


Bidar

Bidar is situated in Karnataka and is known for its forts and ruins. The political art and the cultural art make it a place of learning. The name 'Bidar' is derived from the word 'Bidiru' which means bamboo. This historically rich place is around 147 kms away from Hyderabad. There is no flight available between these two places but direct trains can be taken which will take one to Bidar in approximately 3-4 hours. One can also board a bus from Hyderabad. January to December are considered as the best months to visit Bidar. Places of interest are Khwaja Mahmud Gawan Madarsa, Bidar Fort and Choukhandi etc. Many lodging options are available here where tourists can stay.

Vijaywada

An awesome experience is assured in Vijayawada. 'Vijayawada' means place of victory and it is the third largest city in Andhra Pradesh. It has mythological significance and is one of the popular destinations among the people of Hyderabad. Only at a distance of 274 kms, it is easily accessible through train, bus or car. Kondapalli Fort, Victoria Museum, Mogalarajapuram Caves, Praksham Barrage, Kodapalli Reserve Forests etc are few places which must be visited during the tour here. Amravati, Ghantasala and Gudivada are few Buddhist sites which should also be visited. Many budget as well as luxury hotels are available for accommodation. It is advisable to purchase toys made of Kondapalli wood as souvenirs from Vijayawada.

Srisailam

One of the best weekend getaway options especially during monsoon or winters, Srisailam is only 213 kms away from Hyderabad and buses are easily available which can take visitors to the place in about 5-6 hours. Srisailam Dam, Mallela Theertham, Akkamaha Devi Caves and Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple are the places which are must be seen. There are many lodges, hotels and government run budget hotels too where people can take accommodation. Being a temple town, it only serves vegetarian food. Those going for a tour to Srisailam are advised to buy the pure and delicious honey, sold by the government of Andhra Pradesh.

Guntur

Situated near the Bay of Bengal, Guntur is one of the perfect weekend getaways from Hyderabad. It has a history which dates back to the time of the 10the century and has also witnessed the European and the British rule. Located at the distance of approximately, 268 kms, it is easily accessible through various modes of transport from Hyderabad. Direct trains and buses are available from Hyderabad for Guntur; the journey by train is for about 45 hours while via bus it is approximately 6-7 hours. Places which should not be missed during a tour to Guntur include Kotappakonda Trikutaparvatam, Uppalapadu Nature Conservation, Downtown, Ethipothala falls etc. Hotels and resorts offer excellent services at reasonable prices, which can be enjoyed by the visitors during their stay here.

Hampi

A small city in Karnataka, Hampi is one of the most beautiful weekend destinations in South India. It is deemed as a city of ruins as it has Vijanagara ruins. From Hyderabad, it is at a distance of about 378 kms. No direct flight or train is available for Hampi; nearest airport is Bangalore while nearest railway station is Hospet. The journey by road is the best option which is for about 7-8 hours drive. There are many guesthouses which are available at affordable prices, else many hotels are also present where one can take accommodation. Hampi has been declared as the UNESCO World Heritage Site which signifies that there must be so many places to be visited. Achyutaraya Temple, Hampi Bazar, Hazara Rama Temple Complex, Queen's Bath, Lotus Palace, Elephant Stables are few of such places which must be visited during a tour. Hand stitched blankets and stone carvings are the things which people can shop for at the time of their visit. It is a religious place; therefore, alcohol is prohibited in many places.

Badami

Badami is rich in carvings, forts and caves. It is popular for its rock-cut caves. It is approximately at a distance of 419 kms from Hyderabad. There is a small railway station here which is few kilometers away from the centre. However, no direct train is available from Hyderabad. By train, one should go to Solapur and then take a taxi for Badami. Else, one can take a taxi or cab for a journey of about 8-9 hours. Several budget, mid range and luxury hotels are available for stay here. Tipu's Fort, Open Air museum, Badami Fort, Dattatreya Temple are few of the places of interest here. There are many monkeys in Badami, so the tourists are advised to be cautious during their tour.
