Doda



Doda is one of the districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The district covers a total area of 11,691 sq. km.It is considered to be the third largest district in the state with respect to its land area, the first two being Leh and Kargil. It is located between the 75 degrees 1 minute to 76 degrees 47 minutes east longitudes and 32 degrees 53 minutes to 34 degrees 21 minutes north latitudes.

The Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir consists of four sub-divisions. Namely they are Bhaderwah, Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar. There are 262 panchayats in this district.

The most important river of the district of Doda is Chenab. The famous hydel power projects of Dul Hasti and Salal are based on this river. The economy of this district is basically rural and mainly based on agriculture and farming.

There is a good scope to promote tourism in this state. There are many monuments of archaeological and historical importance in the Doda district. This is also an important pilgrimage center. There is Bhandharkot fort in Kishtwar, Ghajpat Qila in Ramban and another fort in Bhadarwah. The places of religious interest are Kailash Kund, Gupt Ganga and Vasukhi Nag temple at Bhadarwah, the ancienct temple dedicated to goddess Durga at Reushra, the shrine of Chandi Mata at Machail, etc.

The languages spoken in the different parts of this district are Dogri, Kashmiri, Punjabi, Siraji, Bhadarwahi, Paddri, Pogli, etc.

The district of Doda is famous for the rich mineral deposits that are found here. Copper, graphite, manganese, lead, marble, gypsum and mica are among the commonly found minerals here.
