The heavenly paradise of Jammu and Kashmir is famed for housing the legendary Jammu city, housed in Jammu District. Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir is renowned for its innumerable temples.
The pronunciation of the ancient city of Jamboo eventually got distorted to its present name Jammu. Located in the foothills of the Himalayas, the terrains of Jammu gradually merge into the vast Indo- Gangetic plains. Jammu city is one of he eminent tehsils of the district and is marked by a typically sub-tropical climate with scorching hot and dry summers followed by long spells of freezing winter. The temperature varies between 4º Celsius to 47º Celsius and the region also moderate rainfall upto 1246 mm, respectively.
The city is a perfect stopover for pilgrims embarking on a Vaisno Devi Yatra. The other revered shrines like the Raghunath Temple, Bawey Ali Mati and the Pir Khao caves as well as innumerable crenelated forts and ancient places and shopping emporiums converts the state into a treasure trove of delights for tourists.
