The district of Pulwama was created from the district of Anantnag in the year 1979. The district is spread over an area of 1398 square kilometers. Pulwama is situated at a short distance of 32 kilometers from the hub of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar.
The beautiful Pulwama district is renowned for its historical and religious centers that are often visited by the tourists. While on a tour of the district of Pulwama, the tourists can visit the Avantishwar Temple at Jawbrari, which was built in the 9th century by Raja Awanti Varma and still stands in its magnificent glory in the district of Pulwama. Pilgrims of different communities gather every year in large numbers to visit the other religious sites of the Payer Temple, shrine of Shah Hamdan and Asar Sharief Pintoora in the district of Pulwama.
