Universities had been set up in the state to spread education in Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir Universities are reputed institutions to disseminate higher education and encourage research works. There are two separate universities for Jammu and Kashmir. The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology has been established, with its summer headquarter at Srinagar and winter headquarter located at Jammu.
In 1969, University had been established. The National Assessment & Accreditation Council of India has ranked the university as a Four Star University in Jammu and Kashmir. The ambiance of pursuing studies is very congenial in Jammu University. The institution is located at the foot hills of Trikuta mountain.
The University of Jammu conducts the admission tests to study in the institution and also carries on other examinations. The Governor of Jammu and Kashmir acts as the Chancellor of the university. The Pro-Chancellor of Jammu University is the Chief Minister of the state. Many colleges in the state is affiliated under University of Jammu.
Among Jammu & Kashmir Universities, the University of Kashmir holds an important position as one of the reputed educational institution in the state. The University of Kashmir was established in 1948. This institution is preferred by the students to pursue post graduate Degree courses as well some Diploma courses. This university has received recognition from UGC. Under the University of Kashmir, many colleges are affiliated.
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, is another university of Jammu and Kashmir. The Governor of the state acts as the Chancellor of this Jammu and Kashmir University.
