University of Kashmir


University of Kashmir stands as one of the important pillars of Jammu and Kashmir education. The university, a reputed center for higher studies was established the year after independence of India, in 1948. The institution was established to bring back the former system of education in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The former university of Kashmir was separated into two divisions in 1965. One division was set up for Kashmir and the other for Jammu. But with a certain Act, the powers of the two divisions were strengthened and each division came to be recognized as separate universities.

The Kashmir University has appointed eminent teachers to cater knowledge to the students. Post graduate studies and research programs are carried out in University of Kashmir. Some Diploma courses are also taught in the university. The University of Kashmir has been recognized by UGC.

Besides providing standard quality of education, the university has other facilities for the students as well. It has a well maintained library known as Iqbal Library. The students can also avail the departmental libraries. For the non residential students, hostel accommodations are provided.

On securing a certain percentage of marks, that varies from subject to subject, the candidate is allowed to sit for an entrance examination. Getting through the admission tests in Jammu and Kashmir universities is an achievement for the students.
