Ladakh is an area with very little rainfall. It can be said to be a desert in on a high altitude but as the sun shines brightly almost throughout the year, the glaciers melt and supply water to the crops that are grown.
The capital of Ladakh is Leh and it is situated at a height of three thousand five hundred and five meters. A center for the Tibetian and Buddhist Culture, the land of Leh is also a tourist destination. The place contains many colorful and vibrant Buddhist Gompas. It is also a famous spot for hiking with some of the best hikes in India situated in the Leh. Ladakh is well known for the trekkers' heaven
There are many things to see in the area in and around Ladakh. The Namgyal Tsemo Gompa and the ex-Palace are the two main sightseeing attractions in Ladakh. With Ladakh as the base, one could also make a trip out into the ancient Indus Valley. Shey is another place that serves as a wonderful sight seeing spot. Amidst the line of scenic villages there stands a palace built in the seventeenth century. The famous Tikse Gompa is also situated there.
