Nun Kun range


The Nun Kun range comprises of two Himalayan peaks Nun, 7,135 m or 23,409 ft and peak Kun, 7,077 m or 23,218 ft. The Nun range is geographically located between 33° 58' 48?North latitude and 76°01'18? East longitude. The Nun Kun range situated in the Suru valley of Jammu and Kashmir, which is nearly 100 km east of Srinagar. On the north of Nun lies the Kun peak. Both the peaks are separated by a snowy plateau of roughly 4 km in length.

The Nun-Kun massif is a well-known destination for adventure freaks that want to engage themselves in thrilling sports like mountaineering and trekking. The ideal months for climbing Nun Kun ranges are in the month of July, August and September. Nun is the highest mountain of the two peaks in the state of Jammu and Kashmir ruled by India. The region is very popular among the tourists for its picturesque and natural beauty.

The Nun Kun range belongs to the greater Himalayan range and can be accessed very easily from Kargil-Padum road. The snow covered rocky terrain has invited many adventurers to these ranges. Nun-Kun massif was first visited in 1898, followed by three visits of Arthur Neve, in 1902, 1904, and 1910.
