An integral part of the Government departments and Institutions, the Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy reflects the varied cultural traditions of the state. Upholding the traditional heritage and cultural legacy of the heterogeneous population of Jammu and Kashmir, the Cultural Academy organizes several important events to display the rich culture of the state.

Headed by well known personalities from the field of various performing arts of dance, music, dramas and media, the Cultural Academy is an organized governmental body that enhances the development of varied cultures of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Endowed with a rich historical traditions and cultural legacies, the state of Jammu and Kashmir is blessed with several indigenous performing arts that are expressed through unique dance forms, melodious music and expressive dance dramas. The rich cultural traditions have percolated from the ancient times to the modern era. Unaltered and unaffected by modern day developments, the indigenous performing arts have imparted a unique character to the state.

In order to save the traditional arts from dying a natural death under the heavy influence of industrialization and changing times, the Cultural Academy was established by the state government. The Cultural Academy has taken several steps to boost up further development of the indigenous performing arts of the local inhabitants of the state.

The Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy in collaboration with other private organizations arranges several cultural nights where eminent personalities from various fields perform the traditional art of folk dance, folk music or dance plays. The cultural nights provide a wonderful platform to display their talents to the wider world.
