Jammu & Kashmir Judiciary is known as one of the prime elements of the democratic structure of the state. The Judiciary of Jammu & Kashmir consists of a Chief Justice, Advocates, district and session judges, and registrar general. Justice Aftab Alam has been nominated as the Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir state on 6th June, 2007. In 1928 the first high court was formed in the valley of Jammu & Kashmir. The Judicature of the state passed an order through which one Chief justice was appointed for the High court who was to be assisted by two judges.
Currently with five additional judges and nine judges on permanent posts, the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir effectively provides justice to the people of the state. The Jammu & Kashmir Judiciary consists of civil service judicial which is presided by Chief Judicial Magistrates, Sub-Judges, Judicial Magistrates and Munsiffs.
Jammu & Kashmir Judiciary acts as one of the vital watch keepers which strives to maintain a social environment of peace and decorum by making the citizens of the valley obey the law and order regulations.
