Jammu and Kashmir at a glance provides lots of information about the state. Nature has generously blessed the state with immense natural beauty of snow-covered mountains, clear streams, lakes, and rare species of flora and fauna. The state of Jammu and Kashmir is located on the northern part of India. It is geographically located between 32.17 º and 36.58 º north latitude and 37.26º and 80.30 º east longitude.

The State is surrounded by a number of foreign countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, and China starting from the West to the East. Ladakhi, Hindi, Dogri, Urdu, Kashmiri, Pahari are some of the languages spoken in the state. The state of Jammu and Kashmir covers an area of 22,22,236 sq. km, of which 78114 sq km is illegally occupied by Pakistan and 42,685 sq km is occupied by China.

Jammu and Kashmir is very well linked with other important cities and towns of India by air, rail and road. The various airlines including Indian Airlines and private airlines operate regular flights connecting Leh, Srinagar and Jammu to various important destinations. The road network of the state is also very well developed. The major cities of Srinagar and Jammu are connected to the rest of India through National Highway 1-A. Regular trains run from Jammu, thus making access to other places of India easy and convenient.
