Telephone is one of the easiest and fastest ways of communication in the modern world. The northernmost state of India, Jammu and Kashmir has an excellent network of telecommunication in the state. It covers an area of 22,22,236 sq. km and has the total population of 77,18,700. The telecom department connects 14 districts and most of the cities, towns and villages of the state through telephones. Each of the places has been assigned with a distinct Jammu and Kashmir Telephone Code, which is commonly known as STD code. Sometimes STD codes are also referred to as Area Codes.
