Alchi


Alchi, is situated at a distance of 70 km from Leh in Jammu and Kashmir. This tourist center is considered to be a heritage spot in Jammu and Kashmir. Alchi in Jammu and Kashmir is a treasure trove of ancient artifacts, paintings and sculptural works. Alchi has historical significances as the murals in the caves have been preserved for centuries.

It is in the five small temples, inside which the wall paintings have been preserved. These temples are collectively known as Chos-Khor in Jammu and Kashmir. The two other buildings in Alchi that are worth visiting are Sumtsek and Du-Khang. The tourists need to buy tickets to visit these two buildings.

Du-Khang is considered to be one of the oldest buildings in Alchi, built during 11th century. Images of Lord Budhha are found on one of the walls of the temple. The walls are designed with beautiful decorations and splendid architecture should also be noted.

Sumtsek is another mostly visited temple in Alchi. This temple has been built almost 900 years ago and it is a surviving example of the Buddhist art of the medieval period in India. The wall paintings inside the temple are awe inspiring. Inside Sumtsek, the tourists will get to see a huge statue of Maitreya, and also the two statues of two Bodhisattvas.

The location of Alchi is very fascinating. The place is situated near the bank of river Indus and the serene and calm atmosphere is very rejuvenating. One can enjoy the scenic beauty of the place while checking out the ancient works of art.
