Khir Bhawani Temple


The Tullamula area of the Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir is a favorite destination for Hindu pilgrims and all religiously inclined people. The main reason behind this popularity of the place is the presence of Khir Bhawani Temple. One of the most important Hindu shrines in the state the Khir Bhawani Temple of Tullamula; Srinagar is visited by thousands every year. The number of visitors and pilgrims reach the maximum during the festival of Jeth Ashtami. The Jeth Ashtami Festival is held during the month of May or June.

The main deity of the Khir Bhawani Temple is Ragnya Devi. The Khir Bhawani Temple is said to be constructed in the year 1912. Maharaja Pratap Singh was the man behind the inception of this wonderful temple. The Khir Bhawani Temple complex is an archaeologically important site. Past excavations near the temple site have unearthed ancient stone statues, believed to be of the Hindu Period. Some other statues are said to be built during the Buddhist period. Parts of an ancient temple were also dug out.

The Khir Bhawani Temple is situated twenty two Kilometers way from Southern Srinagar. Not only the local people but pilgrims from different part of the state and outside also come to offer their prayers in this temple. It has emerged as one of the most visited Jammu & Kashmir Pilgrim Tourism sites.
