Lakhanpur


Lakhanpur is popularly known as the gateway to the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. This town is located in the famous Kathua district of the hilly state. It is a place of much historical importance. Lakhanpur of Kathua was founded by Raja Sangram Singh.

There are many other places of much historical importance in and around the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. Some of the other places of importance near Lakhanpur of Kathua are Jasrota, Bhadu, Tirikote, Mankote, Billawar, etc.

There are also many interesting tourist spots in this region. Some of the places of tourist interest that are easily reachable from the town of Lakhanpur are :

  • Bani- This is a site blessed with extreme natural beauty. This place serves as a base camp for the trekkers who go trekking to Machhedi, Bhaderwah, etc. It is well connected to the town of Basholi by roadways.
  • Basholi- It is a picturesque town founded by Raja Bhupat Paul in the year of 1653. The beautiful Ravi River flows through this town.
The town of Lakhanpur located in the Kathua district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir is counted among the important and prominent heritage spots of the state.
